So many Christmas parties...not enough time.

So, I've just returned from my 5th Christmas Party. Damn, am I full. 'tis the season to be jolly, and to stuff ye face with Sausages, Turkey, salad and, of course, beer. Because I have just changed jobs, and because I still hang out with friends from my previous to last job, I have been to 2 parties for them, a party for my last job, and 2 parties for my new job. And contracting in a public service dept. at this time of year is interesting, because every 2 minutes you get another email about this party, or that party, or the 'Secret Santa', or the Christmas Decoration judging. It seems that no-one is really doing any work. It's just a matter of filling in the time until the next party! And then of course, everyone is going on leave next week, and the current skeleton staff will become a ghost staff in the final week leading to Christmas. But not me. I will be here, working studiously (cough cough) or at least trying to make it look like I am working. But gone are the days when you could come into work for those 2 days between Christmas and New Year and really do fuck all. Most departments now have their staff work those extra 4 minutes a day to get those 2 days off every year. Pity. Those 2 days were great to bring in the Playstation, set up the TV for the cricket and have a bit of 'no work' fun. Or you could clean your desk.... I'll just bum at home for 10 days. Watch Cricket. Drink Beer. Play with the kids.....in that order ;)
